FINALLY! The Primary Bedroom (Mini) Makeover (That Started Over a Year Ago) REVEAL

As with most rooms — at least in my experience — even after you make over a room or design it from scratch, eventually, it can start to feel a little tired. I had starting feeling that way about our bedroom and while I love most of the large components, I started craving some changes and cosmetic updates. A project that started over a year ago, initiated by a lighting update with my long-time dream chandelier, I finally rounded out the full update, just in time for fall! You can find the original bedroom design reveal from several years ago HERE, and find our latest primary bedroom makeover (mini makeover, but makeover, nonetheless) below!

Primary Bedroom Makeover

Here’s the last non-seasonal photo I could find of our bedroom…

So — what changed? I didn’t do any major furniture swaps but the new look feels so much fresher! Let’s break it down…

Primary Bedroom Makeover Updates

In terms of bedding, while I did add a few new pieces, I’m still using some of the same components that have been in place for years. The linen duvet cover, duvet insert, and linen euro shams have seen me through all my mini-changes and seasonal updates over the past several years and are still present on the bed. I actually ordered a new set of my fave sheets, but they’re currently on backorder — so, one of the old faithful daily sets is still in place!

The updated pieces…

Between the quilt and pillows, I think the vertical stitching gives the bed a little bit of a sleeker, cleaner look.

The light was the first update and while I think I shared a glimpse of it around Christmas, I haven’t talked much more about it. Bottom line, I was a huge fan before I had it, and I love it even more now. I wanted something just a little more “full” and dainty” that didn’t feel quite as “hard” if that makes sense. It still has the brass accent but is softened with the bead strands. I have the large, white bead version in brass, but it comes in a smaller version (HERE) and also a version with glass beads and a version that’s silver HERE.

Layered Neutral Bedroom Pillows

My former rug was a good one but the wool was looking pretty fuzzy after all those years. Also, when Maggie was a pup, she unraveled a corner and we’ve just dealt with it for the past several years. I ordered THIS hand-knotted wool rug as a replacement (in the gray 8’x10′ version) and am so pleased with it in person. I was nervous that it wouldn’t be thick enough to lay well on carpet, but it does. While there’s a lot of tonal pattern, it doesn’t feel busy on the floor and can blend into even the most neutral of spaces.

But, without that ivory rug like I had before, the dark bench at the foot of the bed just felt like a black hole. So, I updated our bench to a cream sherpa storage bench. It’s the single piece that lightened the room and tied in the ivory accents on the bed to the rest of the room. It’s heavy, well-constructed, and ships free HERE. Also, if you’re looking for a good bench to go at the foot of a king sized bed, I didn’t know how much I needed more width until I replaced the one that was in the bedroom before.

I still love our nightstands and lamps but Dave more recently asked if we could have sconces installed instead of lamps to free up nightstand space. It won’t happen for a while, but we’ll see… You can find the inside of my nightstand more recently organized in THIS POST.

While the updates weren’t exhaustive — they were all cosmetic and integrated — it was just the right amount to give our bedroom new life and definitely invigorated my feelings toward the space where we sleep.

I’m excited to finally stick a pin in this one and in addition to the primary bedroom makeover, I still have other long-time projects that have just begun progressing behind the scenes. To catch them all, you can subscribe to emails at the bottom of this post!

Question: Your new rug under bed. Is there any beige/tan brown color in it? If so, I might love it mixed with the gray in it. My walls above 7′ high white beaded board is a brown color. HELP, and thanks in advance.

Hi Teresa, Thank you for taking the time to stop by. My new bedroom rug has all of the neutral colors in it, including some touches of tan. I hope this helps!

I Love the way you decode the room. White bed cover looking good i thing. Could we have used other color pillow cover and bedspread on the bed?

Thank you! And yes, I recently switched quilts from a light gray to change up the look for fall with the other new additions here.
