Gray on Gray Layered Bedding Refresh

I think the last time I shared any updates in the bedroom was two summers ago and while we didn’t make any major departures from our already established neutral primary bedroom, I made some recent bedding switches I thought worthy of a status update. We were approaching 10 years with our mattress and when we switched it out, I took the opportunity to go ahead and make some other bedding changes, too. Read on to see what’s new, along with what I still have in place since KN’s inception!

The Bedding Revamp Foundation: A New Mattress

As I mentioned, I could see our mattress’s life winding down but mattress shopping (specifically for your nightly mattress) can be a daunting task. I had previously partnered with Leesa with one of their original mattresses and was so excited to partner with them again on Instagram — if you didn’t catch it there, I thought it was worth mentioning here, too, because it’s such a major decision and critical component of our daily lives.

We went with their Reserve Hybrid in the comfort level “medium” and have been so pleased since we started sleeping on it, about a month ago. I loved our former mattress (a dense-foam Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme) but I didn’t realize that some of my daily morning pain may have been attributed to our mattress… until we no longer had it. I don’t know if it was the years of wear or if I sleep differently than I once did but as soon as we started sleeping on our new mattress, my morning aches were gone. I also didn’t feel the need for leg pillows to better align my hips like I’ve been doing for the past few years. So yeah, we’re thrilled.

I’m a stomach sleeper and Dave is a side sleeper and the “medium” we went with seems to be a good fit for both of us.

If you’re wary of online mattress shopping, they do offer 10-year warranties, 100 day risk-free trials, free delivery and free returns. And, they’re still 30% off from Memorial Day weekend HERE. THIS tool will let you do mattress comparisons and also has info on what mattresses best suit different types of sleepers.

I’m not contracted to share our mattress on KN but wanted to because it’s working so well for us and of course, I want to make sure you all have all the info here 😉

Gray-Toned Neutral Bedding

I had made a departure from my favorite Belgian flax linen quilt last time and while I liked the lined look of THIS lined quilt we switched to, the fabric just didn’t wash as well from our dogs and it just isn’t as soft. I loved the look so much, we actually used the channel stitched quilt in Eliza’s room (which has held up perfectly since the dogs don’t sleep on it). Here it is in Elia’s room…

And with our former bedding ensemble.

But in our bedroom, I missed our old standard favorite — THIS quilt. So, last year around Thanksgiving, I bought one in “soft gray” and held onto it until now.

After our mattress change-up, I decided it was time to add the linen quilt I’d been hanging onto. Here’s our gray on gray neutral bedding motif.

I have been *so good* about not purchasing new throw pillows and sticking with my favorites but I’d been so good, I was a little bored. Whenever I shop from my favorite pillow shop (HERE), I KNOW I’m going to use them on repeat, for years, all around the house, because their designs are timeless and easy to mix and match, and their quality is phenomenal. I chose two of THESE striped pillows and one of THESE checked pillows to top off the new ensemble (gifted). The striped pillows are 22″ and the checked pillow is 20″ — both are great for the sofa/accent chair and I prefer the inserts they sell alongside the covers.

I also added THIS chunky knit blanket from Target to the foot of the bed and I was shocked about how soft it is! It comes in a ton of colors, is machine washable, and is absolutely worth the more than 3,000 rave reviews.

Surprising (or not), my white linen duvet and euro shams are still original to our bed — almost 10 years and running! To this day, I love keeping it folded at the foot with easy access to pull it up on cooler nights.

While we were at the beach, we went into a home furnishings store and I found a swivel glider that I loved and thought would be the perfect corner reading chair. When we got home, we found a local design shop that carried the brand and for my birthday, my mom ordered one for me. I am so so excited to have finally made a decision and I’m ready to get it into my room so I can start lounging and reading in it. I’ll definitely report back once it’s in and we’re set!

I’ve mixed some sheet sets with errant pillow cases that are starting to show their wear so I foresee a bedding purge and consolidation on the horizon. I’m also on the hunt for new (non-feather) bed pillows that hold their shape but I haven’t gotten the motivation up enough to get after it just yet. We’re gearing up to host (4?!) weekends in a row here so that will keep me pretty busy — once I get a handle on all that, maybe I’ll transition back into research mode. I hope your summer is off to a fantastic start and that you have some fun plans to look forward to!
