I am ecstatic for the entry update I’m sharing today! Tbh, I’ve been on a casual hunt for a new entry chest / entry cabinet pretty much since we painted our dining room dark (see that reveal HERE). I wasn’t in a rush and I wanted to be cost conscious, but when I found it, I found it. We have a small foyer with only a short partial wall below stair railings and a narrow wall just beside the front door so we have to use something with very specific measurements. The accent chest I found fit the bill in every way — it was a sleeker design, the perfect size, fell way below budget, and I loved the look. Along with our entry chest before and after, I’m sharing a few other pretty, small foyer chests and other contenders.

Entry Chest Before & After Glow Up
The short wall, across from the front door that runs into the dining room has two of THESE accent stools that after moving all over the house, I’ve now kept in this spot for more than a year. Sometimes they have a pillow, sometimes a tray… I style them as though the pair of stools are one long bench.
And across from those, just beside the front door, is the narrow spot for an accent chest. The positioning of the light switch panel also made a mirror tricky but the dimensions of THIS ONE work perfectly. Here’s a peek at the narrow wall, when our dining room was still a bright pale blue. That chest was also actually from Wayfair (my go-to for affordable accent pieces) but is no longer in stock — it was well loved for several years.
And here it was after our dining room was painted…
But then, I stumbled upon THIS accent cabinet and had a feeling it would be perfect for our small entry! As I had hoped, I loved it in person, and loved it in our entry in person. It has a more modern silhouette but isn’t so sleek that it looks out of place. I love the fluting detail on the cabinet fronts and the cabinet doors actually have that mechanism where you push the doors in for them to pop out! It has a single shelf inside (which I’m also excited to have in lieu of the former drawers I had in the other).

Here’s how it looks against our dining room. We have a combination of traditional, organic, and modern decor between these spaces and I think the entry chest needed to be a little more updated in its look to more evenly balance the aesthetics.

I love love love the finish and color of our cabinet…
But it actually comes in several finish options. As a reminder to those of you who may not be frequent Wayfair shoppers, orders over $35 ship free, so all these cabinets are delivered at no cost (one of the reasons I always look at Wayfair first for furniture).
1. Alder White Finish | 2. Antiqued Gray Oak Finish | 3. White Finish | 4. Charcoal Gray Finish | 5. Alder Brown Finish | 6. Black Grain Finish | 7. Dark Blue Finish
I enlisted Dave to assemble the piece and I just contributed from afar with my encouragement 😉 Here’s a close up to show just how versatile the design and color are. It’s a great neutral, especially if you have darker toned furniture or a lot of variance in other woods you’ve used and you’re looking for a fairly safe option.
It also looks great against light upholstery 😉

Favorite Small Accent Chests
When I was looking for entry cabinets, I considered lots of different looks, styles, and colors. Here were some of my favorites from multiple price points.
1. Ashlen Accent Cabinet | 2. Handcrafted Seagrass 2-Door Accent Chest | 3. 3-Drawer Solid Wood Chest | 4. Solid Wood 4-Drawer Chest | 5. Chavez Accent Chest | 6. Gedral Accent Cabinet | 7. 2-Door Accent Cabinet w/Legs | 8. White Accent Chest | 9. Seagrass Door Cabinet
Number 1 is my cabinet — it also comes in white HERE.
I love the look of the seagrass doors on Number 2 and it’s under $390 right now.
Number 4 is one of the pricier pieces but the traditional look and detail is timeless! It’s also made of solid wood, unlike most accent pieces today.
Number 6 is also a great budget option that comes in three finish colors and is currently under $180.
Both the walnut and black finish options of Number 7 are under $200 and the door detail is so pretty!
Number 9 is great for a lot of different styles — especially if you like coastal incorporation — and comes in three colors (including white and black). It’s also a budget find!
Accent Chair Switch
As another random but related mention, we also made another accent piece switch. After moving multiple corner chairs, out of necessity, I needed a new home for one of my favorite chairs — THIS upholstered window pane accent chair. And after trying multiple configurations, it found its new home! I still love the cane back accent chair we had in the corner of our conversation room, but that’s been moved to a bedroom. Here’s how the corner of our conversation room looked before (and for reference, it adjoins our entry, across the foyer from the dining room…
And here’s a throw back to a couple years ago when the window pane chair was first incorporated into the sitting area of our bedroom.

But after a game of musical chairs, here it is today, in its new home… and I love it!
As an FYI, it also now comes in a charcoal version (HERE) and the current price is just over $350! And again, just like the chests, this chair ships free 😉 It’s sturdy and heavy and ours still looks new after having it for years.

I love the look of the new cabinet! In the before shot, I noticed an HVAC register in that spot. How did you deal with it?
Thank you, Diane, and I love it too! I just closed the vent. It’s kinda in an odd place so we don’t miss it a bit.
I love it! Such a nice addition and pulls the two rooms together. Love your style!
Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to stop by and for your kind note. It feels so good to make this change and I agree that it is the perfect piece to tie the two rooms together.
