An area that I’ve wanted to address for a while is our bedroom dresser situation. We purchased the one we have — a decent sized metal Restoration Hardware dresser — before we moved into our house. It’s been sturdy and there’s a lot I like about it… but there’s also some things that no longer work really well for us. The main reason I want to update it is that we just outgrew it a few years ago and some of the drawer sizes aren’t conducive to our needs and how we use our dresser. Before investigating further, I had decided that the likely approach I would take to a new dresser is to actually purchase two identical dressers, position them side by side against each other, and treat them as one giant unit. In my search, I found a lot of possibilities and truly, long gone are the days of boring, simple dressers. I found so many I loved that would cater to so many needs and preferences, that I actually decided to include them all together, in one giant favorite bedroom dressers post (including but not limited to… extra wide dressers, extra tall dressers, dressers that would work well side by side, dressers with legs, dressers without hardware (with flat fronts), and just general dressers that aren’t boring.
Many of the dressers I included in today’s post fit in multiple categories and most dressers come in several finishes (light wood tones, dark wood tones, gray, white, black, etc.). My Current Dresser
The dimensions are 64″w x 46″h; here’s a snapshot from several years ago…
It’s on a pretty long wall, opposite the bed, and can accommodate some size. But, as it is, the dresser and tv are both centered across from the bed (on a much shorter wall) so there’s not much playing around we can do with positioning and there’s only so close we can get to the bedroom door.
What I Like About It…
- Unique color that’s versatile across different furniture finishes
- On the taller side
- Wider than many
- Substantial and well built with drawers that are strong for hard use
What I Wish Were Different…
- I purchased from the outlet with the imperfection of a crushed corner. It was a FANTASTIC deal and not bad enough for me to not take advantage of the deal, but the metal has started snagging in some places where corners come together.
- The upper drawers are small — too small to use them for the amount of socks, underwear, etc. that we want to use them for.
- In general, there isn’t enough space for use to hold what we need it to.
What I Want Our Dresser to Fit
Our dresser doesn’t fit what we have in it now, much less some of these wishlist items, but in a perfect dresser world, I would love a unit large enough to fit…
- My athletic shorts, leggings, joggers, sweats, and pj pants
- Dave’s athletic shorts joggers, sweats, and pj pants
- My underwear (including bras, sports bras, shapewear, etc.)
- Dave’s underwear (including under shirts)
- My socks
- Dave’s socks
- My casual t-shirts
- Dave’s casual t-shirts
This is a tall order since currently, in addition to our dresser space, these items are also spanning drawers in our closet and our nightstand drawers. I’m not looking for a new, larger dresser to give us an excuse to hoard more/grow our clothing count unnecessarily, but I want to be able to fully and comfortably utilize drawer space. Dave actually cleared out several bags of t-shirts while I was gone (a huge, long overdue feat) so I’m up next! When we get a new dresser, I want to pare down and only allow myself to keep what will fit inside. This is the goal.

Extra Wide Dressers
In the case I didn’t position two dressers side by side, I set out to find some of the prettiest and widest dressers I could find. Below are a few favorites!

At 88″, Number 8 is HUGE and a fantastic solution for a singular large dresser. I love the long hardware for easy opening, too.
I’m so in love with the aesthetic of Number 1 — the flat fronts are sleek but the textured raffia keeps it from being cold.
Number 4 is 72″ but actually comes in 56″ (6-drawer) HERE, and 68″ (8-drawer) HERE.
Dressers That Would Work Well As a Pair
All of the following dressers have totally flat sides with 90 degree angles, making them perfect candidates to form a seamless mega dresser with 2+ units put together.

Tall Dressers
Something I love about our dresser that isn’t the easiest to find is a piece that has some height (but isn’t considered a chest of drawers). The following make great use of vertical space on shorter walls!

Number 4 comes in four finish colors with two different options for the top! It’s absolutely stunning in every color.
Number 2 and Number 7 are actually the same piece and the only time in the entire post that I shared both color options — but, I couldn’t’ get past how beautiful and different they both are. This is why it’s valuable to check out each piece and the colors offered!
If I could take two of Number 3 and put them together, I think I would have the perfect “dresser”. But, I may be just a LITTLE short on space and a LOT over budget with that :/. Don’t forget to check out all four colors this beauty comes in!
I have a special affinity for Number 6 and think it could seamlessly blend in with any style. But, it’s so striking and such a contrast, it would be a gorgeous statement piece.
Dressers with Legs
Dressers are hefty pieces but depending on the unit, legs can make them look a little more feminine, a little more contemporary, or even make the room look a little more airy. I like having a place to stash my treadmill walking shoes too (shh, don’t tell 😉 ).

My mom has Number 7 in her entry and it is such a pretty, classic piece. Since it’s from PB Kids, it’s also a LITTLE more budget friendly, too.

Dressers Without Hardware
Dressers with hidden pulls or that have a push in/pop out mechanism are on trend and I love the sleek simplicity, giving the silhouette of the piece a chance to shine. A lot of these are also great options to use as pairs to form one mega unit.

Number 5 is SO fun and actually comes in four colors! Because it’s on Wayfair, it also ships free (which is huge for a piece of this size).
Number 8 is a MAJOR budget buy (and also ships free!) but depending on where you plan to put this piece and how you plan to use it, it could be a fantastic (and pretty!) purchase.

Dressers That Aren’t Boring
If you aren’t confined on space and are a little more relaxed in your need for something extra (tall, wide, etc.), I found so many average sized dressers that are just… so unique, so beautiful… Truly, each one deserves further investigation of specs and features.

I LOVE the idea of incorporating Number 1 into an entry or living room for extra storage.
The textured tatami drawer fronts on Number 2 are such a beautiful detail.

The Dresser I’m Ordering
So, after literal years of having a dresser on my wishlist and not being able to decide just what would be the perfect solution in terms of color and size and silhouette, I *think* I’ve made up my mind. And the dresser(s) I’m going with is….
Isn’t she pretty?! I love the leather drawer front detail, too. I shared this dresser in a few other size options earlier in the post (as a reminder, it also comes in four colors!) but I think these warm greige tones will coordinate well with what I already have going on in the bedroom.
It’s a couple inches shorter than my current dresser but is 20″ wider and while it doesn’t have those four tiny top drawer that mine currently has, I gain an extra three full sized drawers. This is a bit of a budget stretch for me, but a dresser in the primary bedroom is opened several times a day and I need it to last. I also need to love it and I’m hoping I’ll be able to get it to function as closet to my wishlist as possible. I’ll be sure to post back when it gets here!
