In some of my first posts of 2025, I’ve talked about focusing on creating and celebrating intentional design this year that is personal and a conduit for joy while outwardly embracing visuals, hobbies, and aesthetics in our home. A few examples off the top of my head — travel memories, books, (not just ‘music’ but the experience and ritual of) music, health, and comfort. My initial projects of the year have been centered around incorporating ways to display and celebrate these — like my latest Frame TV gallery wall. At the top of my list though, and coming soon in full detail, is the evolution of my reading nook in my bedroom. While I cozy up in that corner almost nightly, I’ve added to it and it’s evolved; I’m so excited to share it all! The corner can only contain so much though and with the additions and transferring my accent table to my office, I thought maybe I could get by without a side table since I now have a larger piece, a window sill, and a storage ottoman. Well, I realized in a single reading session that some type of table was a necessity. And with the limited space, it would have to be a small table. Even something just big enough for a beverage and remote control would do. Enter — my first experience and new love for portable and versatile small martini tables.

What is a Martini Table?
Originally used a cocktail tables in 18th century French saloons, the 1920s is when martini tables became a mainstay in celebration of the cocktail hour ritual. They typically have a slim (often pedestal-style) base and a small tabletop. The design makes them especially practical in smaller spaces and sitting areas — especially where you may be too limited for larger side tables or need additional surface space.

So after I played musical chairs, I got a new wooden one.

And I love it. But when I needed a small accent table in my office to house the small suitcase record player, it was too perfect not to change locales.
I love it in here even more.
And then my bedroom corner evolved (coming soon!). And initially thought I could get away without replacing the accent table, but it just wasn’t practical or functional. Not wanting to compete with additional furniture pieces that I’ve added, I wanted to find something small and discreet and I am absolutely thrilled with the acrylic martini table I ultimately chose!

The base is heavy and stable and it’s narrow enough to function just how I had hoped, even in a tight corner space.

Where to Put a Martini Table
A great thing about martini tables is that their size makes them not just versatile but also portable. If you’re lacking floor space or need some extra surface space, consider all your seating areas.

- Tub-side
They typically don’t accommodate a table lamp (that defeats the purpose of the martini table size) but they pair well with floor lamps (or near sconces).

A Few More Fave Round Side Tables
On the flip side — but worth mentioning during Wayfair’s Presidents’ Day Clearance — is my large round side table in our living room that I’ve had for years. It has proven itself to be one of my favorite longstanding pieces but coming it at 26″ wide, it definitely requires more space to accommodate its size. It’s the perfect table for in between sofas, though, giving ample space to both.
