There are so many fudge recipes out there and you may already have a favorite. Some involve boiling sugar or adding marshmallow cream. And I believe Mamie Eisenhower’s fudge recipe is one that many rely upon. But the chocolate fudge recipe I use is so easy to make and I’ve followed it for years. The best part is, it only requires five basic pantry ingredients, plus a little bit of milk, or six, if you want to “fancy it up” and add nuts, like pecans or walnuts.

Can Other Ingredients Be Added To Chocolate Fudge?
I think the fudge has the perfect taste as is, but items other than chopped pecans or walnuts can certainly be added to the fudge mixture before it is spread in the pan. There are lots of possibilities depending on the taste.

Additional Tips for Making Fudge
Here are a few tips to follow when you’re making this fudge recipe.
- Make sure the confectioner’s sugar is well blended and doesn’t have any lumps. Using a sifter after measuring out the confectioner’s sugar or using a whisk when you are mixing the ingredients together will help break up any small lumps.
- Continuously stir the mixture when it is on top of the stove and you are adding the ingredients.
- Use good vanilla. (Mexican vanilla is the best!)
- If you add chopped nuts, salted pecans or walnuts may be used. See my recipe HERE for my toasted pecan recipe.
- When the fudge mixture has hardened, cut the fudge into small squares, as a little goes a long way.
- Store the fudge in a parchment paper-lined covered tin and store in a cool place. (I like to store mine in the refrigerator.)

Hi Nancy, I typically use an 9 x 9″ pan. But you can use a smaller pan for a thicker fudge…even a loaf pan. If you give this recipe a try, please let us know what you think!
