This is so silly but I’ve been hoping to get this little project posted for weeks now. WEEKS. This was the first update I made in the new year and since then, it’s brought me subtle but immense joy. Surely you know by now, regular reader, how much I adore my little reading/vinyl listening nook in our bedroom. And, as such, I’m continuing to put more effort into showcasing, integrating, and refining spaces that better reflect how we want to use them/things our family values and loves. So, this is just that. I’d already updated the space to how I wanted to USE it, but the art on the wall — while I appreciated the simplicity and design for almost a decade now — well, I was missing an opportunity to showcase a few things. 1. The ability to not just collect but display my vinyl record collection, 2. the opportunity to create a personal art moment that was meaningful to me, and 3. the chance to install something that would continue to provide simple opportunities of creativity. Today, I’m sharing my vinyl record wall display, with added ambiance for the nook that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with.

From Generic to Mine: Why I Swapped Art Prints for a Vinyl Record Wall Display
This should be a familiar sight, if you’re a semi-regular visitor. For a long time, the wall in my bedroom reading nook was doing… a nice job. It had art prints. I liked them. They were neutral. They were safe. And don’t get me wrong, I love safe.
To be clear, while I didn’t want to forsake the opportunity to get more personal on this wall, I still appreciate these framed prints. I actually relocated them to our upstairs hallway and they add so much to the catwalk! I love them there!

The prints filled the space, but didn’t say anything about me. And in the most personal corner of the most personal room — meant for reading, record playing, and winding down — it started to not feel right.
So I changed it.
Instead of trying to make those prints feel meaningful, I leaned into something that already is: my vinyl collection.

Can I just say OBSESSED? Such a cliche word but it’s the only one that encapsulates the joy I get every time I see this space, and that I continue to return for.

A Vinyl Record Wall Display That Changes With My Mood
I added eight simple shelves and turned that once-forgettable wall into a rotating vinyl display. And here’s the part I love most: it’s not meant to stay the same.

I can swap records seasonally.
Or monthly.
Or by holiday.
Or by color.
Or by vibe.
Or by whatever I’m feeling on a random Tuesday night.

My first wall, since I concepted and created it at the beginning of the year, in the dreariest part of winter — black and white. I had so much fun coming up with it and narrowing it down was tough. I already can’t wait for my next display. Any guesses as to what theme I have planned?

It’s part display, part creative outlet, and part excuse to revisit albums I already own and love. Instead of vinyl living quietly in sleeves, it gets to be seen—covers, typography, artwork and all. It feels alive in a way framed prints never did.

Mood Lighting Changes Everything
To finish it off, I added rechargeable library sconces above the shelves, and I cannot overstate how much I love them and how much they’ve added to the space — not just for additional light but they truly set the mood and intention of this little nook.

They add the softest glow… just enough light to make the space feel purposeful and cozy without demanding attention. At night, with a record playing and a book in hand, the lighting alone makes the nook feel like its own little hibernation world. Calm, warm, and exactly the kind of ambiance that makes you want to settle in. Add a cozy, candle-lit, snowy winter ambiance scene on the TV courtesy of YouTube, to really be extra.

A few reasons I love THESE library sconces, specifically.
- They SUPER affordable. They come as a set of two and are under $90 for the pair. They come in two sizes (mine is the smaller of the two options).
- They’re magnetic — you can pull them off and on to recharge (or just run a long charging cable up to them.
- They have remote controls that you can use for each one individually, or, you can do what I did and sync them both to one remote.
- They have a timer function if you want them to shut off automatically.
- They come in three different warmth settings and you can make them as bright or as dim as you like.
- They’re modern and sleek but can compliment a traditional space beautifully.
- They were easy to install and can hang vertically or horizontally.

Why This Small Change Matters So Much
This wasn’t a big renovation. It didn’t require tearing anything out or buying something trendy just because it looked good online. It was about replacing something impersonal with something that reflects what I genuinely love.

BTW, if you want a separate storage for singles, THIS clear cd display is working beautifully. And, I use THIS acrylic bin to keep out what I’m currently playing, playing a LOT of.

That simple shift has brought me so much joy. I also invest a fair amount of money, not just on vinyl I love listening to, but on covers, variants, and colored pressings that make me excited. An opportunity to display that instead of tucking them away is so fun and makes it easier to justify some of my collecting decision ;).

There’s something deeply satisfying about fine-tuning an intimate space, especially one meant for rest and creativity, until it feels unmistakably yours. This corner of my bedroom now tells a story. My story. One album at a time. With whatever I’m living in the current moment.

If there’s a spot in your home that feels “fine” but not you, consider this your nudge. Sometimes the most meaningful updates aren’t about adding more, but about making room for the things you already love. And, if you are a vinyl collector, here’s your sign to consider displaying some of your favorite finds 😉
