Snack Around The Plate — Valentine’s Day & More

According to a quick site search, our last Snack Around the Plate launched last summer — August 5 to be exact! With several random things to share — especially as we approach Valentine’s Day — I thought it was the perfect time to jump back in with a few random items in a brand new SAP.

What is a “Snack Around the Plate”? Growing up, this was the phrase my mom called meals she would assemble with random favorites when scouring the pantry and fridge. And, while each item didn’t totally go together, assembled as one collective, I loved them! Basically, “Snack Around the Plate” posts are just a smorgasbord of randomness — “a little of this and a little of that” from all things lifestyle. It’s a mish-mosh highlight reel from a favorite recipes to favorite finds.

1. Eliza’s Valentine’s Season Room

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already caught the little Valentine’s updates to Eliza’s room. I sorted through our small arsenal that was packed away, and picked up THIS new $10 heart pillow (also comes in pink!) for an after school surprise that absolutely thrilled her.

2. Friendship Bracelets for Valentine’s Day

I have never seen this done before but for a cute but still budget friendly Valentine (that isn’t candy or something that will just get tossed), I found a pack of 36 friendship bracelets for $18! There’s a few different color schemes and styles but the simple style has a ton of different, sweet and appropriate messages. Again — 36 of them! They ship free via Amazon, as do the heart cutout tags I ordered to tie onto them. We’ll type a message and print off clear labels for one side and Eliza can write names on the other side. I haven’t put a lot of thought into yet but it may have something to do with “In My Valentine’s Era” or something…

3. Tortillas and Tortilla Chips

I (like many of you) love the Siete grain free tortilla chips (don’t care for the salsa or refried beans but the taco shells are also incredible!) but I’ve been dying to try the tortillas. My typical go-to has been the Mission carb balance and they’re absolutely fine, but I just had a feeling the Siete almond flour tortillas were going to win high favor. And, they did. They are pricier than typical tortillas (they also aren’t on the shelf — they’re refrigerated) but ohmygosh. They are fantastic. If you’re looking to make simple swaps and make pain-free smarter choices, definitely give these a try!

4. Shoe Organizers

My dedicated shoe area in my closet is really small and limited to pull-outs and by the end of 2024, I had additional pairs — especially sneakers — littering my closet floor without a home. I have higher up shelf space but wanted to make sure I made the most out of what I had if I was going to expand my shoe storage. I have seen this style shoe organizer a lot on social media but there are so many different brands — after researching and browsing a while, I ended up selecting THIS set (in black) and I LOVE how they function! They are adjustable up and down — depending on the shoe height (taller for heels/boots, low for sandals, middle for tennis shoes — and Dave’s shoes also fit.

I have a lot of work to do in my closet but here’s a peek at my organizers in action.

They come in several colors and I’m relieved to have every pair up and off the floor now.

5. New Magnolia Branches

You know my long time faux magnolia stems that I collected over the course of a couple years? I have several arrangements in my house that I leave up year round and this past year, they went out of stock and we thought they were discontinued. (They have actually just been added back HERE!) In the time those stems were gone, there was a new style faux magnolia stem added to the shop. And, my mom bought some for me for Christmas. I mixed them in with that I already had and I LOVE the additional dimension and natural look and variance they give! I also beefed up some of my smaller arrangements. These are 41″ long and easy to manipulate into fantastic arrangements using a few or a bunch. Here’s what they look like mixed together…

6. Daddy Daughter Dance — Dresses and Tie

Eliza and Dave have their first Daddy/Daughter sweetheart dance this year (*heart melts) and Eliza has officially picked her dress. I know a lot of you will also have that celebration coming up so I wanted to share the two I ordered for Eliza to choose from — one classic, sweet, and demure (that would get a lot of additional winter use) and one “fancier” with sequins and tulle. Both are adorable. Ultimately, Eliza chose the the latter.

I actually also ordered Dave THIS inexpensive tie off Amazon to coordinate with her dress, too — it matches perfectly 😉 They actually have like 45 colors so if you’re looking for something super specific (for matching, a dance, wedding, etc.), they have just about every shade you could want!

This winter doesn’t seem as gloomy as winters past — maybe it’s because we got a little snow, maybe it’s because we’re feeling content, maybe it’s because I’m focusing on joy and purpose. I hope your 2025 is off to a wonderful start, too. xoxo
