Top 10 Indie Pop Vinyl Records I Keep On Repeat

I have a super eclectic taste in music and since I started collecting vinyl, my most collected genres are oldies, 90s alternative, indie pop, folk/Americana, and country. And I have a lot of plans to share my faves, what I listen to for different circumstances, and what I keep on repeat. After collecting almost 300 albums (I know!) fairly quickly, I try to show all my vinyl love but there are definitely records that I find myself reaching for over and over again. And since I work from home and read most evenings, my turntable is spinning nonstop. Today, whether you’re curious about starting or expanding a vinyl collection, I’m going to share my very-difficult-to-narrow-down-but-incredibly-accurate top 10 indie pop (folk pop, bedroom pop… whatever you wanna call it) albums in my personal vinyl record collection. .

What is Indie Pop?

Well, honestly, it’s totally subjective depending on who you ask but it has more singer-songwriter vibes and tends to infuse lots of folk and Americana. Some of it I would even describe as “bedroom pop” as it feels less produced, but music is so fluid, it’s tough to nail down an exact definition. Some of it can be found on Top 40 radio but many are described more as album artists with a lot of songwriting, storytelling, with a heavy focus on instruments — especially acoustics. It’s relatable and more raw than a lot of the super polished dance pop/rock with lots of effects.

Full disclosure — while I tried to narrow down each artist by their albums I listen to the most, I own each of the following artists’ full discography and truly believe that you can’t go wrong with any of their albums. I listen to them all a lot. Except Star-Crossed by Kacey Musgraves… not a big fan of that one, haha.

Top 10 Indie Pop Albums in My Vinyl Record Collection

After careful consideration, below are my top current indie pop/modern folk album recommendations for relaxing, vibing, hanging, or just to have on as background.

Top 10 Indie Pop Vinyl Records

NUMBER 1
The Secret of Us (Deluxe)
Gracie Abrams

Also adore…
Good Riddance (Deluxe)

I (unbelievingly and incredibly fortunately) recently snagged her Live from Radio City Music Hall during Record Store Day — it’s also incredible if you get the opportunity to purchase it!

Top 10 Indie Pop Vinyl Records

NUMBER 2
With the Colorado Symphony
Gregory Alan Isakov

Also adore…
This Empty Northern Hemisphere

My friend, Casey, introduced me on a Saturday and by the end of the weekend, I had ordered every single one of his albums.

NUMBER 3
Fruit from the Trees
Jack Van Cleaf

Brand new release on order…
JVC

If you like Zach Bryan, you’ll love his duet on Rattlesnake. Guaranteed to be your gateway to loving this artist! Truly. I pre-ordered his second album months ago and I’m pumped that it’s officially en route!

Top 10 Indie Pop Vinyl Records

NUMBER 4
Deeper Well
Kacey Musgraves

Also adore…
Golden Hour

She somehow taps into fans of Americana, pop, and country — both mainstream and indie — all at once. I love Deeper Well so much, I was able to pre-order Deeper Into the Well (a limited deluxe album) a while ago that I’m expecting to arrive this fall.

NUMBER 5
Ever-Shifting, Continual Blossoming
Chance Peña

Brand new to me, I am so excited to have found this artist! If you love Noah Kahan, you’ll love Chance, too. I ordered his album from an independent record store and currently, it appears independent shops and his website are the only places that carry his vinyl.

NUMBER 6
Lust for Life
Lana Del Rey

Also adore…
NFR!

She never misses and it’s impossible to rank my albums in favorite order — which change on any given day! Born to Die is incredible and probably her most recognizable album and don’t miss Ultraviolence.

Top 10 Indie Pop Vinyl Records

NUMBER 7
Strange Trails (10th Anniversary Edition)
Lord Huron

Also adore…
Lonesome Dreams

After not being pressed for a while, Strange Trails was just re-pressed and re-released for its 10th anniversary!

Top 10 Indie Pop Vinyl Records

NUMBER 8
Cleopatra (Deluxe)
The Lumineers

Also adore…
The Lumineers 10th Anniversary Edition

Their latest — Automatic — is probably my least favorite album but still an enjoyable listen.

Top 10 Indie Pop Vinyl Records

NUMBER 9
Stick Season
Noah Kahan

Also adore…
I Was/I Am

All of his albums are incredible but his recently released Live album at Fenway Park is amazing. The energy, the song selection… Incredible!

Top 10 Indie Pop Vinyl Records

NUMBER 10
Folklore
Taylor Swift

Also adore…
The Tortured Poets Department Anthology

Last but certainly not least — my queen — Taylor Swift. I can’t pick a favorite album and I listen to them all a LOT but if I’m vibing, Folklore, Evermore, TTPD, or Midnights is typically my go-to! If you can ever get Folklore Long Pond Studios Sessions — an exclusive — it’s incredible and probably my most listened to Taylor album of all the official and unofficial albums I have.

Some of these you may have heard/heard of, others you may not have and should check out. And remember — if you intentionally veer away from someone you deem too mainstream, in the words of my wise girl, T. Swift — “Just because something is cliche doesn’t mean it’s not awesome.”
