Snack Around the Plate

Just off of Spring Break, taking the warm weather where we can, inching toward the end of the school year, and settling into celebrating all the new season brings is the perfect time for a brand new Snack Around the Plate! So today, that’s just what we’re gonna do 😉

*By the way, I recently posted 15 Things that Have Me Pumped for Spring HERE, which — if you like the randomness of the SAP, you can also check it out!

What is a “Snack Around the Plate”? Growing up, this was the phrase my mom called meals she would assemble with random favorites when scouring the pantry and fridge. And, while each item didn’t totally go together, assembled as one collective, I loved them! Basically, “Snack Around the Plate” posts are just a smorgasbord of randomness — “a little of this and a little of that” from all things lifestyle. It’s a mish-mosh highlight reel from a favorite recipes to favorite finds.

Below are six random things I wanted to quickly chat about!

1. THIS Versatile, Breezy Outfit

I may or may not have already mentioned each of these pieces individually already, but since spring has started, I’ve quickly come to love the way some of them are layered together into versatile outfits. I just wore the green striped button down (with a front tuck) and black wide leg trousers with black slides to church this past Sunday (and I should have snapped a pic and didn’t), and while it was more than dressy enough, these pieces can even be dressed down and unbuttoned for the pool, just as easily. The waist of the pants is buttoned but has elastic and the perfect pleats, making the front so flattering. The shirts are oversized (as they can double as cover-ups) but for a more traditional (and still oversized fit), size down.

Today, the button downs are 55%(!!) off (and come in a bunch of colors and patterns), and the wide leg trousers are 30% off and come in four colors! The slides are just $20 and are one of my most worn staples from last year.

2. None Left to Tell by Noelle W. Ihli

Deserving of its own recommendation and call-out, as soon as I finished this book, I immediately encouraged others to read it. I started None Left to Tell as I was in a little bit of a reading slump and needed something reliable to get me out of it. I had no idea what it was about but I’ve enjoyed and binged several of Noelle Ihli’s books and thought it would be an easy one to break my spell. It was totally different than her other books I’ve read but I was so invested in the story and absolutely loved it. It chronicles the stories of three different women during the Mountain Meadows Massacre — an event described as one of the most brutal mass slayings in American history (that I had no idea about) — in the Utah territory. There were similar themes to the miniseries, 1883, and be warned — if you are wary of sensitive content, definitely check your trigger warnings. I felt so many emotions reading this and a lot of the content was difficult, but it was a 5* read for me.

3. The Items I’m Most Looking Forward to from the Sephora Sale

I try to save the bulk of my beauty buying for the two major Sephora sales and as a Rouge member, I was able to shop at 20% off this past Friday (code SAVEMORE)! I love trying new things during this bi-annual event and I tried to reign in my re-stocks so as not to over-purchase. Along with a few of my standards, there were a few new purchases and re-stocks I’m looking forward to coming (today, actually!)

1. Sol de Janeiro Perfume Mist Discovery Set | 2. Rare Beauty Soft Matte Blush | 3. Kerastase Repairing Shampoo | 4. Marc Jacobs Perfect Eau de Parfum | 5. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Body Firming Cream

As a big fan of the Sol de Janeiro body mists — especially when I’m dressed super casually or just out of the shower — I have almost all the scents and there isn’t a single one I don’t love. The sizes that get the most use for me though are the minis because 1. less commitment, 2. they’re great to split (Eliza’s gotten them in her stocking/Easter basket), 3. awesome for travel, and 4. it’s a fantastic way to test them out! I grabbed their limited edition value set of minis and trust — this one will sell out before the end of the sale.

I have yet to try Rare Beauty’s blush but after the one I typically use changed its formula, I was excited to give this 5-star rated blush a try! All the colors look stunning but I ordered the shade, Happy.

I love THIS Kerastase shampoo and was stoked to order the value size during the sale. I also ordered restocked the conditioner from the same line. I credit switching between this and Purology for majorly improving the texture of my hair.

Not new but new to me, I finally grabbed Perfect by Marc Jacobs to add to my perfume tray! It’s feminine, not overpowering, and perfect for spring when you prefer bright over musky scents.

My Bum Bum cream lasts SUCH a long time, so while it’s a bit of a buy, it’s worth it for the longevity — especially when you can get it on sale. I especially love slathering my legs in this, just out of the shower.

4. Record Store Day

While this won’t apply to all (or even most) of you, for fellow vinyl lovers, are you hyped for Record Store Day 2025? If you aren’t familiar, Record Store day is an annual day in April to celebrate independent record stores. Artists make exclusive albums and pressings (think deluxe versions, anniversary albums, live albums, different colored pressings, first time in vinyl format, collaborations, etc.) — available only by visiting small record stores, in person on a specific day. This year, that day is Saturday, April 12. For a record store to participate, there’s a laundry list of agreements they have to make (no reserving, no selling prior to 8AM on the 12th, in person sales only, etc.) — anything left over is able to be made available in the shops’ online stores the following day. But, many of the most anticipated albums will sell out in person, quickly, the day before.

Lots of people who want to make sure they get something will even camp out, old school Black Friday style. For each album (there’s a little more than 400 this year), a certain number of pressings have been made and some are super hard to get. There’s one on our list, for example, that only 900 copies was made. Each participating record store places their wishlist orders, but they don’t know what they’ll actually be sent until they’re invoiced, closer to the date.

You can visit their website to see what’s being released this year and how many pressings are set for each album — you can also search for record stores closest to you that participate in this awesome event.

5. Walmart Girls Shorts

Discovered by total accident when we swung into Walmart after church, these knit shorts for little girls are the most incredible value. The length, the fit, the quality, the price. I grabbed several colors for Eliza in store (there are way more online) and she’s been wearing them on repeat, already. If you’re in the market for a good pair (or 10) of athletic shorts for play, camp, around the house, beach, errands — really anything — these can’t be beat. And while the under $5 pricetag is wild, they actually have several options that are available as a two-pack that are 50% off, making them under $5 for TWO PAIRS! Check out all the colors here, available in girls sizes XS (4/5) to XXL (18), and plus sizes. 100% verifiably obsessed with this deal.

6. PB Wooden Scalloped Photo Frames

I’ve expanded my wall photo galleries to eclectic tabletop galleries and absolutely LOVE these wooden scalloped photo frames with wide mats. They also come in black, but if you have an aversion to shiny/metallic frames, these are the perfect organic incorporation.
