Twinkling Fall Front Porch (& Wayfair’s Epic Fall Sale)

Not to be dramatic, but this past week, I assembled our fall front porch and it may be my most favorite fall porch I’ve ever curated and created. And that’s a bold statement because my favorite porches are fall porches. I can’t pinpoint exactly why it’s my favorite — the color scheme, the composition, the touch of magic — but today, I’m so excited to share the end result of my red and orange fall front porch. A fall porch with twinkle lights 🙂 My fall porch coincides with Wayfair current Epic Fall Sale with deals up to 70% off, and fast, easy deliveries on orders $35+, so be sure to check out special pricing.

I’m sure you’ve seen me rave and brag on my new maple leaf wreath by now. I ordered the 30″ wreath from Wayfair as a new addition for fall and had planned for it to live in my dining room — and while I loved it there, I also really wanted to show it off on my front door. It is shockingly full, fantastic quality, and unlike a lot of muted, dark, or green wreaths, it shows up well against my dark house and sometimes shadowy front porch. It’s Wayfair verified (meaning their staff inspects customer-loved products for quality and price and must pass a set of criteria) which is one of my new favorite ways to determine some of my best and most confident purchases from their site.

As a matter of fact, my mom loved my red wreath (below left) so much, she ordered the multi-colored version for herself (below right) and then subsequently ordered an additional one as a gift.

And here’s a reminder of what my red maple leaf wreath looked like in our dining room, against our black walls, before I decided it should be more visible.

While it’s safe to say that the red leaves from the wreath were my inspiration for the direction of my fall front porch — both in color and decorative accents — I’m thrilled with where I landed. I used pretty much the same general formula as I do each year, but it feels more vibrant, colorful, and filled with more visual impact. Here it is.

It’s early in the season and for the first time, I sourced my live mums and pumpkins without going to the pumpkin farm and before stores are fully stocked. I stuck with shades of orange and red, exclusively, and pie pumpkins were as small as I went. I didn’t see any minis available yet and it actually worked out just fine.

I think one of the most interesting accents I added that made such a difference were THESE red maple leaf stems. Each set comes with six stems and they’re actually 28″ long, without folding them.

They have color on both sides of the leaf, are thick, easy to bend, and work really well in this kind of setup. I incorporated two sets (12 stems total) on my steps.

This is my second fall using THIS Halloween doormat — as you can see, it’s still in perfect condition, even after being used hard. I did grab a new striped layering rug in the 2’x3’7″ size (a fantastic deal at under $27 right now) for a fresh doormat base. It’s a performance indoor/outdoor rug and made for the elements, unlike a lot of other layering rugs I’ve had.

I also love how the rug coordinates with our striped pillows on our rockers off to the side. And speaking of our rockers, can you believe our Polywood rockers are over a decade old? A quick wipe down and they’re still as good as new. With the heat and sun friendly Polywood, IYKYK.

Another reason this may be my favorite fall porch setup I’ve done… Eliza is so invested in decorating, especially seasonal decorating when we’re talking about whimsical nature like flowers and pumpkins. And she loved chiming in and sweetly and loudly appreciating our fall front porch setup.

The leaf stems are such a cost effective and affordable way to make your setup look extra full without spending a fortune on pumpkins. Even though I feel like our fall front porch looks extra sumptuous this year, I think actually have fewer live elements than I typically do.

Fall Porch with Twinkle Lights

But another favorite part? Maybe the best of all? I brought back whimsical twinkle lights for evening and nighttime magic, but they’re even better! Unlike the battery powered strands I’ve used in the past, I found a set that are solar powered and not only do they come on automatically when the sensors detect the sun has gone down, but they stay fully illuminated until sunrise the next morning. Which means that Eliza and I get to walk to the bus and enjoy them each morning.

They also have several different modes — from steady to different blinking modes — and I put ours on a gradual, natural twinkle. You can see a video of them on my LTK page HERE. Each strand comes with a ton of lights. The thin wire also makes them simple to nestle and disguise and they don’t take away from the flowers and pumpkins. Eliza got out of bed and joined me on the evening I snapped pics and loved being a part of it.

I actually want to get some more sets to try them out along our boxwoods on pool retaining walls in the backyard.

As an aside, Eliza has gotten to where she loves posing and was asking me to take photos of her (heart hands, of course), and then asked to take my picture. I resisted and told her I wasn’t fit for the camera — she repositioned my shirt and said “there”. I decided in that moment (as I always try to, despite my discomfort when she asks to take a picture when I have messy hair, no makeup, etc.), to set the example and model that we shouldn’t be critical and insecure, so I acted like it was no big deal and yielded to her request. Here is my shot of her…

By the way, as much as I love my red wreath, it comes in a yellow color scheme too and I have so many ideas with how that could look with yellow, white, green, and even purple as an accent.

Beautiful porch! Where did you get the beautiful mums? I believe you live in my area.
    Thanks

Thank you, Kathy, for taking the time to visit! I got my mums at Costco. They had the very large ones, which are sold singly and small mums which are sold in a pack of four. Both were available in a variety of colors and it’s been my experience that they will have these available for awhile. Happy fall to you!

Thank you so much, Libbe! Those lights are definitely the real deal and I love that they are solar-powered, so no batteries are required.
