You know what I love about summer? Well, aside from longer days, outdoor weather, frozen drinks, and evenings on the deck? You can get away with paring down and simplifying and call it “decorating”. This summer, I was craving a clean palette without the clutter. While I couldn’t resist a few vibrant nods, for the most part, I went for a more minimalist vibe that just feels so fresh and calming when it’s hot outside. I’ve been busy taking everything down a notch and today, I’m going to share it all in my Shades of Summer Home Tour with neutrals and naturals.
I’ve joined six other bloggers (some will be likely be familiar and I’m hoping some will be new to you) in today’s tour; we are each sharing the colors and palettes that are inspiring our summer homes this season. To those of you joining from Heather at Setting for Four, welcome! I am so crushing on all her indigos, blacks and grays! I will be showing you where to head next at the bottom of the post and no worries if you missed someone along the way – I will include a full list at the bottom 😉
If this is your first time, you can get to know a little more about me HERE. If you are a regular visitor, I’m so glad to have you stop in today. I’ll even share a new little tidbit. Nothing says “summer” to me like oldies music. It was always playing at our pool when I was growing up and even now, I had to put some on to get myself into the summer-time spirit 😉 It’s best to jump right into a pool quickly, so we will do the same here. I will include a full source list at the bottom of this post. Welcome to my north Georgia home.

Some of you may know, I love all things southern so my rocking chair front porch is one of my favorite things. These polywood all weather rockers (HERE) have gotten me through a few years- an investment for sure but they have been AMAZING. I was feeling the whole “less is more” vibe on the outside too, so my simple black and white striped pillows from Restoration Hardware Outlet were the perfect touch, only to be surrounded by green plant life. The neutrals and naturals tone is set from the start, before you even set foot in the house.

My wreath was a DIY from a few years ago and if you have visited before, you will likely recognize it. You can see how I easily pulled it together HERE. Ok, so this is where you can get settled in for just a little bit as we take a look around inside. Grab a beverage, turn on the Beach Boys or Jimmy Buffett (are you east coast or west?), and take a look around.
I don’t usually start by showing my breakfast nook first but with the palm leaf centerpiece (HERE) and a few tropical apps, I thought it was a perfect place to set the stage. I opted against a loud, colorful arrangement in here and instead went for some large palm leaves in an over-sized pitcher. Since I’m letting the neutrals take center stage while the naturals breathe a bit of color and life into our home, you’ll see an ongoing trend throughout the tour.
For the buffet (as in ‘buff-ay’ not ‘buff-ET’; is your mind still on island tunes? 😉 ), I mixed my faux limes with some small green apples. Whenever I can find inexpensive bags of fruit at Trader Joe’s, I load up. I am all about food that can serve two purposes. I found some new black and white bud vases at West Elm but they have been discontinued online :/
I am all about the marble and wooden cheese boards for summer (if you are a regular, you know how much I love boards for display and entertaining), and I am loving THIS ONE from Williams Sonoma I picked up a few weeks ago. PS- it’s currently on sale 😉 When it’s not in use, it will be joining some of my other favorited boards, displayed in the kitchen.

Between the breakfast nook and the kitchen is access to our back porch- the place we spend most of our time during the warm weather months. I shared this entire space in detail earlier in the season HERE. If you came over in the evening, this is exactly where we would be spending our time! Outfitted with billowy curtains for daytime and draping lights for night.

Back inside, in the kitchen, everything has been paired down. While I am all about those neutrals and naturals, I can’t resist infusing a happy “pop” occasionally. And, what says “happy” like dancing, colorful tulips? I kept my counter tops bare for the most part to still give me that clean summer look I craved.

To dress up my sink, I always choose a pretty-ish, big bottle of hand soap, use a soap dispenser for dish-washing liquid, and corral them on this beverage stand (HERE). When I have flowers, I like to dress up this little “moment” a little more by putting a bud or two in a tiny vase.
Our great room is where I really had to work on paring things down.
Aside from the layered trays and single floral arrangement, I cleared the entire coffee table.
And the built-in bookshelves even got a facelift. The result of well-styled bookshelves absolutely makes my heart flutter but getting there can be so difficult. My more neutral look is just what my eyes (and heart 😉 ) needed.

By now, you may think I should have named my tour after tulips 😉 My new little straw coasters (HERE) remind me of hula skirts. Cute, right? They are available in several colors if your less of a “natural summer” type person and want to go bolder.

Taking the navy out of the room and paring down the pillows was tough. I have loved all the blue and white in this room over the last several months but, I felt a lot of the decor was “heavy” with the feel I was going for. I went for whites and neutrals on the sofa and replaced heavier blankets with linen. Don’t judge but I didn’t realize until just now how “loved” our linen has been – just added a good steaming to the to-do list haha.

If we would have gone in order, this is the view you would have seen from my front door.
And, if you were missing my blues and whites, no worries- a lot of them found a new home in the dining room.

I scored these pretty little embroidered blue and white pillows for the chairs flanking my buffet at the Pottery Barn Outlet in the kids section for a super good deal.
Along with my sofa, and dining table, this bar cart (HERE) is one of my favorite parts of styling for the new season.
Across the foyer is our formal living room. I took out some of the heavier velvets and also moved a few pillows in here from the great room. I usually have something bold going on on the ottoman so taking a break was a nice change.
Let’s go ahead and head upstairs to check out a few spaces. If you didn’t follow along during my recent One Room Challenge, here is some background. I just finished this room – in six weeks, it went from something (definitely not this) to a guest bedroom I’m proud of. You can see the entire process, the before photos, and the final reveal HERE.
She is still looking the same as she did when I wrapped her up a couple weeks ago – naturally ready for summer – except for these purple hyacinths. Which, by the way, I am totally going to be doing more of.

Another total makeover project I took on for the One Room Challenge was this office, back in the fall. You can see the same process and full reveal HERE.
Because I spend so much time in here, I wanted an orchid for the summer. I’ve had good luck in the past with keeping them going so my fingers are crossed for a happy summer office companion! 😉

I have a love-hate relationship with my bedroom. Love the bed, “bleh” about the room. It is so big and I’ve never taken the time to deliberately plan it so it is coming up on my list of spaces to tackle and revamp. As in the rest of the house, I stuck to some neutrals but brought in a hint of nautical after being inspired from my recent guest bedroom transformation.

But, my favorite part of the bedroom isn’t actually in the bedroom. It’s what is just beyond that door on the side of the bed.
We have several outdoor spaces and believe it or not, we use every single one. I love sitting out here before bed when it’s raining. Or, in the morning on the weekends, when I wake up and call my mom for our regular marathon chats.
And as a place to step out to take an intermission during movie nights? I am so thankful to have our little screened in porch off the bedroom.
Thank you so much for stopping in today; I would love for you to visit again! I have a lot of fun projects coming up, new spaces to share, and summer activities on the horizon. You can sign up for my newsletter at the bottom of this post to be the first to know 😉 While you’re down there, I would love to hear your summer palette- are you bold? Tropical? Vibrant? Or, do you prefer to keep a minimal, clean look with neutrals and look to the naturals to bring in the texture and color? For more detailed info and sources on all my rooms, you can visit the top of my page under “Decor” –> “Room Reveals”.
Whew! Are you tired yet? I hope not- there are six other GORGEOUS summer homes on the tour! Next, head on to my friend Ann of On Sutton Place. She is going to be sharing her beautiful navys and neutrals throughout her home; this color combo absolutely slays in the summer and Ann’s home is looking beautiful all dressed up in it! Take a little peek here.
You can head over to Ann’s home HERE, and then she will direct you to the next home and so forth. I know! SO much goodness! Not sure where you’ve started or where you’ve been? Make sure to catch everyone on today’s tour here. Check out those color combos- you won’t want to miss a single one!

Bravo on capturing the perfect summer home! I love every bit and so enjoy our visits in every space. You’ve given me great inspiration to “pare down.” I need to get to it!
Love what you’ve done in EVERY room!! Is this a newer home?
Thank you, Marie! It is.
Thanks for sharing your amazing taste with all of us. I was wondering about the dining room color on the bottom half of the crown molding. I know it’s Lauren’s Surprise on the top. What is the bottom color?
I believe it is “Creamy” 😉
Love this color brick! Do you know the name of the brick and mortar?
Mandy, I’m so sorry, I don’t!
You are so talented! Love the soap dispenser on the little stand by your sink. Where did you get it?
Tracy, thank you! In the bathroom section at HomeGoods 😉
Hi Kelley! First, let me say your house is my favorite of any home blogger I follow.
Question – in your dining room, where are those little blue and white planters on the bar cart from? esp. the one with the succulents in it…
and the white pitcher you use a lot – with the circles on it… love that, too.
Jennifer, you are too kind and that means so much! The blue and white dish is vintage but the pot with succulents was a HomeGoods find. The large white pitcher that I use a lot for centerpieces was ALSO a HomeGoods find. :/
Ihave been looking at that same sectional but wasn’t sure of what color to get. I happened to google Lazyboy Aspen and that’s how I found your site. Would you happen to know the color? I didn’t want leather and I see that your’s isn’t! Your home is beautiful!
Stephanie, thank you!! The color is actually discontinued :/ I didn’t know until a LaZBoy rep let me know. I would definitely look at swatches in person- they have a ton!
you never disappoint, I love your style. Please share the paint color in the great room. I love how crisp it is. Continue to share, because it is encouraging.
Thank you so much- I absolutely will 😉 It is Versatile Gray by Sherwin Williams.
Wow, my wife and I love this! We’re getting so many great ideas for our new home!
I am so glad, Christian!
Your home is incredible – I have found my style inspiration! Could you share the trim color that you used with the Versatile Gray and Perfect Greige?
Julie, thank you so much! The trim is Creamy by Sherwin Williams xoxo
Love everything…..
Could you please share the paint color of your dining room?
Gaayl, it is Lauren’s Surprise by Sherwin Williams (a little too dark/vibrant for what I really want, though)
Thank you for this nice sharing. Great post.
Emily, Thank you for taking the time to visit. I appreciate your kind note!
