2015 Christmas Home Tour

UPDATE: Check out Kelley Nan’s current Christmas Home Tour for 2017 HERE!

Christmas Home Tour Blog Announcement

I am so excited to invite you into our home this Christmas! Along with seven other talented bloggers, we have been preparing for the holidays and have been counting the days to welcome you into our homes for our Christmas Home Tour, hosted by The House of Silver Lining. Whether you are linking over from Mollie from Design Loves Detail’s gorgeous holiday home tour, or I am your first stop, I am so glad you are here! Be sure to check out the other homes who would love to host you, listed at the end of my tour. If you haven’t already, go ahead and turn on some favorite holiday tunes. If you don’t have access, just imagine the keyboard intro to Last Christmas by Wham! (I am a super fan of cheesy holiday tunes).

Note: You can follow along on Instagram at #WinterBloggerlandTour

Since this is the first Christmas in our home, I really wanted to make it feel like we were home for the holidays. Our last home’s size and color scheme was very different, so I did have to make some “investments” this year. Although we are in north Georgia and snow is a hit or miss each year, I wanted to create a winter wonderland feel with a lot of white, a lot of natural elements, and if you know me, of course a lot of sparkle. Please come on in and let me show you around!

Christmas Front Porch 2

While you won’t find much red on the inside of our home, I kept the outside classic, red bows and berries with green garland, white lights, and a few snow covered branches. The wreath was also a simple DIY.

Christmas Porch 1

Our entry is very small; once you come in, you will see most of the house from that spot. If you look to the left, you will see our sitting room…

Christmas Formal Living Room 1

… and to the right is the dining room.

Christmas Entry

Christmas Table 7

Straight ahead, just past the stairs is our great room.

Tree from Entry

Let’s start off in the sitting room. I have metallics in this room year-round which makes incorporating those silver and gold Christmas touches an easy task.

Christmas Formal Living Room 3

I marked this room “complete” with dual magnolia leaf/champagne ornament wreaths for the french doors, a few Christmas trees scattered on our coffee and side tables, ornament filled apothecary jars atop the cabinet. and some winter touches to a round, mirrored gold tray. As you will see in our walkthrough, I went a little crazy with the faux snow from Pottery Barn. Even after a healthy “dusting” throughout the house, I had a LOT left over which will serve me for years to come.

Christmas Formal Living Room 2

Let’s head into the dining room next.

Christmas Dining 2

The large, gold bottle brush trees and white twig wreath were found at HomeGoods and I was thrilled to find these deer at my nearby Pottery Barn Outlet the day after Thanksgiving. A few stray ornaments and a little snow on the silver tea set rounded out this look. I like decorating with large pieces instead of a bunch of small items. It makes a statement but doesn’t seem quite so cluttered.

Buffet Deer

For this holiday table, I wanted the theme to be centered around stars- silver stars, gold stars, white stars… and, of course a lot of sparkle. I will be posting another tablescape soon so be sure to check back in!

Christmas Table 3

I was able to use a lot of the same pieces on my table as I did for fall. You can check out two of my autumn table looks here and here.
Christmas Dining Table Details

Christmas Table 8

Remember that tree I flocked a few weeks ago? (You can visit the DIY here). I love how it turned out! I kept it simple with a few birds, owls, and paper stars . It corners a window facing the street in front of our house, so you can see the lights aglow after dark.

Nature Tree

I found both of these adorable reindeer (because what winter forest is complete without snow white deer?!) and apparently, they are on significant sale right now.

Christmas Table 9Christmas Table 5

Instead of seeking out Christmas-specific napkins/napkin rings, I layered these cream and gold beaded napkins with these silvery gray napkins. I used a basic silver napkin ring and layered it with bells and a star ornament.

Christmas Table 4

Christmas Table 6

Next, we can make our way into the kitchen.

Christmas Dining

I’m already making plans for lit greenery on top of my cabinets for next year, but this year, I kept with my minimalist preference. Ok, maybe I just ran out of time haha.

Christmas Kitchen

Christmas Kitchen 2

Christmas Kitchen Apples and Limes

The mercury glass apothecary jars and silver stick orb were of course, HomeGoods finds. I love the monochromatic look with such different textures. The cloches are filled with ornaments, snow, and a mini bottle brush tree; of course, they are kept company by the most incredible candle ever!

Christmas Breakfast Room 1

Adjoining the kitchen is the breakfast room. I took an inexpensive mini wreath, weaved some small silver snowflake garland throughout, secured it to the bottom of the chandelier with floral wire, and added a few pine cones. Dressing up a chandelier is an easy, fun way to change the look in your room; you can get as creative as you want!

Christmas Breakfast Room 2

Christmas Breakfast Room 3

I could have taken this tree and sat it in the center of the table and been done with it. But, I always try to layer. Add something to a tray and it immediately looks more purposeful and put together. I also carried the pine cones down from the chandelier to help with the cohesiveness.

Christmas Breakfast Room 5

I loved finding some of these ornaments to use as standalone decor. Again, much of what is pictured on my breakfast buffet is from my everyday decor. Incorporating seasonal to what I already have is key for me.

Christmas Breakfast Buffet

In the corner of our breakfast room, I keep a simple tree filled with classic ornaments and sentimental Christmas memories. My mom still gifts us a new ornament each year; a tradition I will always look forward to.

Sentimental Tree

A funny story about that greenery wrapping the lantern chains- these were actually the ties use to secure the Christmas tree from the manufacturer. My husband cut them to dispose of, but me being the hoarder I am, hung onto them and decided that they could be re-purposed in this way. Here’s a little peek into the great room, but first, we are going to head upstairs.

Christmas Home Tour 1

The only bit of decor I added upstairs was in our master bedroom. And when I say “bit” I mean BIT. I learned a trick from my friend Kris (on Instagram, you can check her out at @drivenbydecor) where she added ribbon to pillows she already had. I thought it was complete genius! I did add these white and silver paisley, beaded lumbar pillows but kept the rest of my bedding the same.

Christmas Bed 2

A few simple florals and a $3 tree from the Target Dollar Spot were my only other additions.

Christmas Bed

When you walk out of the bedroom, you can peer down into the great room (we are getting there!) That large wreath is one DIY I am super proud of. I purchased it as a plain, green wreath, flocked it like the tree in the dining room, and then added ribbon, ornaments, natural elements, and embellishments to match my garland. A DIY will be coming soon.

Christmas View from Above 2

I wasn’t originally going to put the faux snow directly on surfaces, but as I mentioned before, I got a little carried away. This console table was the first place I “went rogue”.

Christmas Console Table 2

Details on my adorable, custom “Christmas in Dixie” pillow can be found on this previous blog post.

Christmas Console Table 4

Christmas Console Table 1

We have finally made it to my favorite room in the house – the center of our home and where most of “Christmas” is happening!

Christmas Living Room 9

Christmas Living Room 10

I had a hard time pumping myself up enough to re-style our built-ins. It’s one of those things that when you get it just right, it’s hard to make a change.

Christmas Shelves

Each year, I frame our Christmas card and bring them all out during the Christmas season.

Christmas Shelves 2

Oh, and hey! There’s some snow- I bet you weren’t expecting that! haha

Christmas Shelves 3

I had new stockings (in Arctic Fox) made this year; it is the first time my husband and I have had stockings with our names since we have been married. Oh, and yes, Santa does fill them.

Christmas Stockings

Christmas Living Room 7

I was so excited to get a larger tree this year, I went a little nuts!

Christmas Living Room 8

After my husband set it up, I spent three hours fluffing it…

Christmas Living Room 5

…and another five hours decorating it. Spools and spools of ribbon, decorative picks, floral branches, balls, ornaments, berries, mesh, feathers… yea, it’s all in there! Keep following along with me to see a few close-ups.

Christmas Living Room 6

My fall to winter pillow shift was pretty simple. I took off the navy and darker colors and added some more winter white, fur, and a few sparkles and sequins.

Christmas Living Room 1

So, just as in my real everyday life, I had an “ah-ha!” moment halfway through the tour, ran to the basement, and grabbed a mini boxwood wreath. I knew it would be perfect for my handsome silver stag!

Home Tour Preview 2

Christmas Coffee Table

For our wedding reception a few years ago, I knew I wanted BIG statement lanterns to use on top of some of the tables. (Yes, I put 4′ tall lanterns on top of tables… five of them to be exact haha) I still have three and my mom has two of them on her southern front porch. I used a pair to bookend the tree and filled them with large ornaments and greenery wrapped around tall candle pillars.

Christmas Lantern

My gifts have never looked as good as they do this year. My friend Tamara (whose home is also in this tour) launched her line of holiday gift wrap and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! Admittedly, as the season goes on, the effort I put in my bow “art” starts to wane.

Christmas Gifts

I have been asked how I decorate my tree and for any tips I may have. I only have one. Whenever you think your tree looks full and you are done, keep going!

Christmas Tree Closeup

I have also had questions on how my lights seem so bright. I didn’t add any light strands to the pre-lit tree. The white and silver glass, along with the tons of glitter provide awesome reflective surfaces. Again, the more ornaments you have, the more the light will be able to bounce around and radiate!

Christmas Tree Closeup 2

Tree Top

I want to thank you for letting me take you on a tour of our home! If this was your first time visiting, I hope you come back, and if you are a “regular”, well, I hope to “see” you just as often! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email. You can also sign up for my newsletter to have announcements delivered directly to your inbox. I hope you still have your Christmas music playing (or maybe you are humming Last Christmas in your head on repeat, which is also totally fine), because it is time to head to the next home in the tour! The next stop is my friend Haneen’s home; link over to Haneen’s Haven see her colorful, vibrant wonderland here.

You won’t want to miss any stops! Here are the other participating homes:

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season, filled with laughter, love, and blessings in abundance.

    LOVE everything! 🙂

    • 12.7.15

Katie! Thank you so much for coming to see me! And you can always come by in real life too 😉 I do the ribbon first- I actually layered two types on top of each other. I don’t tie or not anything- just kind of tuck loops deeper inside. When I finish a piece, I go back and pull the bottom ribbon that was layered underneath out just a little for a peek of both. I can show you!! xo Thank you again, Katie.

Absolutely stunning!!!! You’ve inspired me to try the mixed metals for my tree next year. Any tips on your method for weaving in the ribbon and mesh with the ornaments?

    • 12.31.15

Awesome! For the ribbon, go with a wide ribbon (2″+). I layered two different kinds on top of each other. Just tuck and then come out- I would work by section but don’t try to be strategic in placement- just go all over. Once you finishing tucking the strand of ribbon, pull the piece you had layered in with it out from the side a little to show a peek of it. I cut my strips as I went so I wasn’t dealing with the entire roll at once. Purchase more ribbon than you think you need, and add the ribbon before you add ornaments and picks (it should be your first step after fluffing the tree). Lastly, I also used some mesh. For that, I just cut smaller pieces, pinched it together, and then wrapped the very tip of the tree limbs around it, just enoucgh to secure it to the branch. I will definitely have to post a step by step next year!

These rooms are beautiful and very well done, however, they do not have the one element of Christmas that counts the most. Warmth. It is one thing to decorate a perfect room and quite another to say, “welcome please come in.” I do not feel welcome in these rooms. I can admire them, but I would not want to live in them especially on Christmas Morning.

    • 11.1.16

Nancy, I’m sorry you feel that way. Fortunately, our home was filled with an abundance of warmth last year – many new memories were made, new traditions began, Christmas carols flooded the house, and we enjoyed lounging around under the twinkling lights of our home. I hope you will stop back by next month when I launch this year’s Christmas Home Tour. We have so much to be thankful for and I always want our guests (and family) to feel welcome and comfortable in our home, especially during the holidays.

    • 11.1.16

Alana, thank you so much! The kitchen is “Perfect Greige” and the dining room is “Lauren’s Surprise”- both by Sherwin Williams. Depending on light, they can both appear darker so be sure to test before committing! 😉

I think this house is gorgeous with a very homey touch! I would feel very welcome in this home. I am trying to choose a paint color and love all of yours. I noticed you used perfect greige in the kitchen and versatile grey next to it. May I ask why you used two different colors and are they right next to each other. Again, it is beautiful but I am trying to make a decision on my own home

        • 11.28.16

Hi, Rochelle! Thank you! Just to give it a slightly different dimension, but, with lighting, it is actually difficult to discern the difference between the two.

I LOVE your floors! Would you be willing to share what they are and how you like living with them? I love dark. Yours look darker in some pictures – probably the lighting. I just don’t want to pick a floor that shows every little thing and be a slave to keeping them clean. By the way, this is my first time visiting and I love your Christmas house! I can’t wait to explore some more!

    • 1.9.17

We love them! They are Nottaway Hickory in Weathered Saddle- I believe Shaw is the manufacturer. They are super durable and while they do better than those that don’t have grooves, they DO show rug shed if you have a shedding rug. THank you so much for visiting!
