A North Georgia Fall Home Tour

traditional-fall-front-porch-on-brick-and-stone-home-with-pumpkins-and-leaves-cascading-down-stairs

Happy first day of fall! Actually, I thought September 20th was the official first day until just now when I saw that technically, fall begins in two days on September 22nd. But, I’m going to pretend like I didn’t just look it up and don’t know any better. Fall has hit our house hard, regardless of what the calendar (and weather) are saying 😉 Snuggles under fur blankets have already commenced (with the AC still blasting, of course… we are in Georgia haha).

Prepping our home for fall has been a labor of love. Emphasis on “labor” 😉 I’ve sprinkled little bits in most every room of the house in anticipation of inviting you in for my fall home tour today. As a bonus, I have linked to just about everything in every room on the tour at the bottom of the post. There are a lot of changes since this summer and since last fall’s home tour (HERE) so I’m excited to usher you in to take a look around! The first to welcome you is Mister (check out the bottom left sidelight 😉 ).

The Front Porch

Last fall, I went all green and white on the front porch. And, I loved it. But, when Dave showed up with a pair of grocery store jack-o-lanterns on Halloween because he “didn’t want trick-or-treaters to be confused on whether or not we were participating in Halloween”, I decided to go a more traditional route this year. We took a day date to Burt’s Pumpkin Farm in north Georgia to load up on pumpkins. After flooding the steps with our key finds, the cherry on top was locating two strands of leaf garland, stuffed in an old fall bag in the basement. Because my burgundy mums haven’t popped just yet I’ll be sure to share as soon as they do. They are just now starting to peep their heads out. Each year, Costco is our go-to for mums; they are HUGE, last FOREVER, and are a killer deal.

I also went with a more traditional color with less traditional leaves on the front door. To me, magnolias are the south.

The Formal Living Room

Just inside the front door to the left, our formal living room is made up in hues of gold. I played off the metallics already adorning the space and fought my instinct to do something totally unnatural… like go on a hunt for white leaves (haha).

Do you have a chunky knit scarf from American Eagle, circa 1998? Mine wound up in my ottoman basket tray to add a little “cozy” because… well, why not? I also brought in one of the huge lanterns I talked about recently in my fall wedding post (HERE); I have been looking for a tree/large plant to fill this corner space but I think I may like this big ‘ol lantern even more through the cooler months.

I hauled out some pumpkins and gray velvet pillows from “the closet” to complete the autumn vibe in this room. By complimenting what I already had going on in here, I was able to up the cozy-factor for the season with little effort.

Guest Bedroom #1 | AKA “Nan’s Room”

Through the french doors, I assembled a few black, white, and gold welcome pumpkins in a dresser vignette for guests in “Nan’s Room.”

I fell in love with these leaves immediately; is it ok to leave these up year-round? Maybe hang some Christmas ornaments from the branches? I struck out at Hobby Lobby this year but was able to lock these down at Michael’s. During the cooler months, I have two extremes going on- lots of metallics and mercury glass, but on the other end of the spectrum, a lot more natural finishes. Something I love about this room is it shows how two different styles – i.e. the casual woven basket tray and the more formal, contemporary Greek key ottoman – can come together in harmony.

The Entryway

A quick look back across the entry into the dining room…

The Dining Room

I have a dedicated post on this fall table coming next week so for now, I’ll give you just a quick peek 😉

Ok… one more 😉 And that’s all I’ll say about that. For now.

The Kitchen

This fall, my kitchen centerpieces will be dedicated “bowls of the season”. Lots of pears, lots of apples… I will still be bringing in flowers regularly, but during the fall and winter, I like to turn to easy, casual displays. (Think branches from the yard and produce from the grocery store.)

The Breakfast Nook

Instead of last year’s steel-y hydrangea wreath, I opted for this golden number from HomeGoods. The arrangement on the table was my first assemblance of fall florals a couple weeks ago. I had fully anticipated that they would be dead by fall home tour time but they are still going strong!

fall-breakfast-nook-with-wreath-over-mirror

I used this floral foam inside my soup tureen  and displayed the arrangement on this Skyros cake stand to go along with the white stacked cake stand theme happening on the buffet.

I didn’t plan to leave my summer granny smiths but after I mixed in a few over-sized acorns, it just seemed to work. I also fought my natural instinct to cover this space in “all the pumpkins” and kept it simple with two coordinating glass white and gold specked guys I had from last year.

Another one of my humongo wedding lanterns has a permanent home in the corner of our breakfast nook.

For you readers who have been with me since the beginning, you may recognize these leaf placemats and napkin rings. They first made an appearance last fall in my first fall tablescape. Since I went a different direction in the dining room this time around, they made themselves at home at the kitchen bar.

The Great Room

Now that we are creeping back to the center of the home, I’m excited to share my favorite space this season. Last year, I used navy and gray exclusively in the great room. This year, I was looking forward to bringing in some plum and velvet.

Willa Skye Home took my navy and plum dreams and made them so much better than I could have planned. I worked with Kristie who started coordinating fabrics together based on my initial selections, sent me several combinations, cord trim ideas, and even took a photo of my sectional and created a mock-up with colors and sizes. Last Friday was the definition of “happy mail” when all my covers arrived. Yes, I have the navy and plum velvets but Kristie suggested some lavender and silver animal print which I probably wouldn’t have thought of. She added an elegant cord to both the lavender and champagne covers.

All the pillows she created are available on her site; I have listed the sizes of the covers in my living room and have linked to them below.

I initially thought I was going to leave my blue and white in this space. Unfortunately, I just wasn’t feeling it. In place of the two matching ginger jars, previously sitting on the top shelves of the built-ins, I added two large, matching silver pumpkins.

Here’s a close up of some of my new beauties 😉 This was my first experience with custom pillows and now having them, I don’t know what took me so long. The quality is impeccable.

I had planned to basically throw eucalyptus all over my house. Like, enough to feed 143 koalas for a week. But, as luck would have it, I scooped up the very last (and only) bunch from Trader Joe’s one day last week. I decided if I could only have eucalyptus in one place for now, it was meant to go in this big arrangement of hydrangeas and mums.

Pine cones are one of the most simple ways to say “hey, it’s fall!” or with a little “frosting”, “hey, it’s Christmas time!” I have a few varieties but the basic pine cones make their first appearance to commence autumn and hang around until after the New Year.

Just as I did in my formal living room, I mixed a few different styles and finishes in the photo below. From the pumpkins to the layered trays, don’t be fooled into thinking things have to match. Pull out your arsenal and start playing!

If you make your way upstairs, here’s a peek down into the great room below. While purple may not be considered a traditional fall color, get it in a velvet or fur and you’re set. Bring out the furry/fuzzy blankets to make them look even cozier.

The Master Bedroom

Next to the upstairs catwalk is the master bedroom; it received a mini seasonal face lift, too. I shared the simple secret on how I affordably transition my bed throughout the year HERE. Of course, this fall is no different.

master-bedroom-with-gray-pillows-for-fall

I saved just enough stems from the main great room arrangement to sprinkle throughout the bedrooms.

Guest Bedroom #2 | AKA “The White Room”

Down the hall, I will likely be updating this guest bedroom a little more before the season is over, but for now, I was excited to make just a few simple additions to give our guests a little autumn flavor.

white-guest-bedroom-with-fall-purple-mums

I used several of my Love Feast Shop plush pumpkins throughout the house. This little gold lambskin leather is my fav.

white-guest-bedroom-with-tray-and-purple-fall-mums-with-gold-pumpkins

Our third guest bedroom still looks like a college dorm room but I have plans for that space in the next year. But, not before my office makeover which is in the planning stages. I will begin that journey on the blog starting October 6th. You heard it here first 😉

I have a lot of fun projects, makeovers, hops, tables, and stories coming soon. If you would like to stay up to date with all of them, you can sign up to get my emails delivered to your inbox. Another perk? My email subscribers receive a few exclusive goodies like advance fall sneak peeks, not shown in today’s tour 😉 If you had any questions as you made your way through the house, I have detailed source lists at the bottom of the post.

Beautiful home tour! I love your new pillows and I think purple and lavender are the BEST fall colors because it can be found in southern sunsets at times! You are so magical in your eye for color and light. I so adore it all! Especially the plum and lavender. I never thought of that color combo but will embrace it with some gold! Did you do the white pumpkins with the glitter on them yourself or bought them that way in the breakfast nook? So loved that look with the stacking of the cake plates, truly gorgeous. Your are so inspiring for all of us!

    • 9.21.16

Edith, thank you! The lavender thought was thanks to Willa Skye Home; I wouldn’t have thought of it wither. I did not do the glitter; I purchased them at HomeGoods last year 😉

Absolutely stunning Kelley! Every single detail of every single room! ???. And I was cracking up about the chunky American eagle scarf circa 1998. Why yes I do believe I have one of those and apparently I’m going to have to use it as fall decor now because that is an absolutely amazing idea ???. Thanks for letting us your your beautiful home!

Carissa! HAHA- yes!! I have a few more that I hung on to through the years that I will be hauling out also, I believe 😉

Absolutely stunning! Can’t wait for the dining room tablescape post! Would you mind sharing where you purchased the pumpkins that are in “Nan’s room” and in your kitchen? Thank you!

    • 9.24.16

Rachel, thank you so much! Next Wednesday 😉 And absolutely- the pumpkins in Nan’s room were from Hobby Lobby last year (they tend to repeat so they may have them this year, too). In the kitchen, one is a ceramic pear (Hobby Lobby) and I believe the pumpkin was HomeGoods last year 😉

Absolutely beautiful! I’d love to be able to do something so elaborate in my house, but I have no idea where I would store all of the decor items in the off-season. Do you have any storage tips?

    • 11.1.16

Erika, I am a self proclaimed hoarder and am NOT the best person to ask. One of the contingencies of our new home is that it had to have a basement with lots of storage. So, I am lucky. One easy thing is instead of buying pillows, buy pillow covers and use the same inserts on all the pillows. Instead of buying a lot of faux pumpkins, go for some real ones. You will have to purchase each year but you can always change the look. Use decor you keep out year round (vases and pitchers) and just purchase seasonal stems. I hope some of those ideas help!

    Hi Kelley Nan!

How you you keep the white dishes and serving pieces all the same tone. I have always wanted to do all white serving pcs, but get all mixed up when I go shopping at different places.

    Cheers!
